The Gallery of Horyuji Treasures houses and exhibits more than 300 treasures
originally donated to the Imperial Household by Horyuji Temple in Nara in 1878
and later transferred to the national government.
The original gallery opened in 1964, while the current building was completed in 1999.
The present gallery was designed by renowned architect Yoshio Taniguchi,
known for numerous museum projects including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
His father, Yoshiro Taniguchi, designed the Asian Gallery at the Tokyo National Museum.
Surrounded by greenery, the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures is distinguished by its bright,
open exterior and serene exhibition spaces, and received the Architectural Institute of Japan Award in fiscal 2001.
Okuno offers Sushi Kaiseki crafted from the finest seasonal ingredients
and refined culinary skill, all within the tranquil setting of the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures.
The interior has been designed to evoke a subtle sense of Japanese aesthetics,
incorporating the interplay of light and shadow through shoji screens, along with the textures of washi paper and stone.
It is a calm and refined space where guests can continue to enjoy their meal even after the museum has closed.
We invite you to spend a leisurely moment experiencing the Japanese sense of beauty and spirit of hospitality.
Whether dining with someone special or marking an important occasion,
Okuno offers a setting worthy of a memorable day.
